A few weeks ago Mcafee contacted me about their service (previously hackersafe i believe). Anyways after some conversation and a 30-day free trial I tried them out. Mcafee noted that we would see up to a 12% increase in conversions because of their branding of the seal. First thing I noticed was my competitors using fake mcafee logos on their sites. I brought it to their attention. They said they would take care of it as long as it was a USA site. Today, I still see the same fake logos and no difference in consumer trust. No action has been done from McAfee.

So I contacted them to end my free trial today. I also told them about my competitors, and they said there is nothing they can do because the checkmark the competitors are using is a different color the McAfee's checkmark and the logo is a bit different. My competitors say Site Advisor Secure, and Mcafee's says Secure. So we can tweak their logo and give the customer the same effect of security. Let's be honest, how many people actually click on the secure logos? Is it a matter of trust with the visual, or do you want a visual and click for confirmation?

I'm not sure anyone even looks at these things.  We know some of our competitors that do very well with no trust seals and no BBB certifications etc.  It's all marketing I think Bryan and the studies that show 12% conversion increases are probably old.

Years ago it mattered to me.  As long as I see the https now and it appears to be a legitimate site I'll buy from them.

Hi Guys,

I totally agree. I too have signed up for the 30 day trial (March 31st-April 30th) and am yet undecided whether to keep it or not. I am paying $1,450 for a 3 year term for a single site with relatively low traffic.

I agree the site logo probably doesn't make much difference. What I am trying to weight out is the value of their testing the site daily and notifying me if there is a security issue.....

Any thoughts? :)

Thanks,
Derek

I've always felt that for users/shoppers that don't know exactly what it is, there's a chance of creating an impression that "this site has been hacked before but now we're showing you that it's no longer hackable".

No proof of it being a "point" though!  personal opinion.
