Interesting news story about LaGarde filing for bankruptcy was posted at http://dayton.bizjournals.com/dayton/othercities/kansascity/stories/2008/11/10/daily17.html?brthrs=1

I wonder how those "phone home" licenses are going to work. Will the SF6 sites all crash if the license server goes off line?

Sounds scary with the 'ET call home' issue.

Chapter 11 is what you file when you plan to stay in business. Chapter 7 is what you file when you want to liquidate.

The article I saw specifically said they were working with a potential buyer as part of the process. I expect that LaGarde will be purchased by another company. License servers will probably continue to run but who knows what is in store for the future of StoreFront development.

I called and they said they were being looked at for purchase.

I asked if the stores would continue to run if their licensing servers went off line and was told not to worry because they thought they were being purchased.

Well I guess filing chapter 11 has a few folks worried. Several clients are looking to migrate ASAP and honestly I don't blame them.

Without them stating who wants to buy them, we really don't know the intent. It could be a competitor buying them at pennies on the dollar simply to shut them down. It could be a 3rd party software company (an accounting app company or something like that) that just wants the code and client base to sell to with no intentions of going forward with the base product.

If you want a GOOD LAUGH call their 800 number and listen to the recording - "We're the number one ecommerce solution provider bla bla bla..." I almost fell off the chair. Shouldn't the number one provider in ANY industry at least be solvent?

I was thrown out by Bob himself (the owner) after we found a major security hole in their product and brought it to their attention. Turned out to be best thing that ever happened to us. I would be losing some serious sleep right now if we had the hundreds of SF sites in the network that we used to.

Scary stuff. I knew there was a reason why we switched to BV so many years go.
